A private transfer from Salzburg to Prague covers 375 km — east on the A1 Westautobahn to Linz, north on the S10 through the Mühlviertel to the Czech border at Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště, then through České Budějovice and up the D3 motorway via Tábor to Prague — and takes approximately 4 hours door to door. The fixed fare starts at €580 in a Mercedes E-Class for up to 3 passengers; groups of up to 6 travel in the V-Class from €640; the S-Class is available from €955 for executive or VIP travel. Your chauffeur collects you at your hotel in the Altstadt, a festival residence, Salzburg Hauptbahnhof or Salzburg Airport, and brings you to the door of your Prague hotel, apartment or office.

The fare is fixed before you leave Salzburg. Fuel, tolls, the Austrian and Czech vignettes, bottled water, Wi-Fi and child seats on request are part of it. No change of trains in Linz, no suitcases on a platform, nothing to sort out when you reach Prague.

The Route

Salzburg to Prague
in about four hours.

From a pickup on either bank of the Salzach — the Altstadt, the hotels near Mirabell or the airport on the western edge of the city — your chauffeur joins the A1 heading east. The motorway runs along the edge of the Salzkammergut past Mondsee, then out across the Upper Austrian farmland toward Wels and Linz on the Danube.

At Linz the route turns north onto the S10 Mühlviertel expressway, climbing into rolling, wooded hill country to the Czech border at Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště. It is a Schengen crossing: no booth, no stop in normal conditions. On the Czech side the road continues past Kaplice to České Budějovice, where the D3 motorway takes over for the run north through Tábor to Prague. Total distance is approximately 375 kilometres; driving time is about four hours in normal traffic.

Your chauffeur checks the road before departure. During the Salzburg Festival in late July and August, and on winter weekends when ski traffic fills the A1, the stretch toward Linz can be slow — if it is, they adjust the departure time or the route without asking. You reach Prague in time to check in and still have the evening for the Old Town.

Stops on the Way

Break the journey
in South Bohemia.

The road from Salzburg to Prague passes some of the best small towns in Austria and the Czech Republic. These three stops are the ones travellers ask for most.

Linz on the Danube

Leave Salzburg at 9:00 and stop in Linz an hour and a quarter later. Walk the Hauptplatz, look in at the Ars Electronica Center or take coffee by the river, then continue north to Prague for a late-afternoon arrival.

Lunch in Český Krumlov

A short detour after the border brings you to Český Krumlov, a UNESCO town wrapped in a bend of the Vltava. Ninety minutes for the castle courtyards and lunch by the river, then two and a half hours on to Prague.

České Budějovice and Hluboká

Stop at the arcaded main square of České Budějovice, home of the Budweiser Budvar brewery, or at the white Tudor-Gothic château of Hluboká a few minutes north. One hour is enough, and the D3 takes you straight on to Prague.

Stops are planned at booking and priced by the extra time and distance — tell us where you would like to stop and we confirm a firm quote before you book. A short coffee or rest stop on the way is always included.

The Chauffeur

What to expect
from your driver.

Your chauffeur arrives at the entrance of your Salzburg hotel, not at the end of a pedestrian lane in the Altstadt. At Salzburg Airport they wait inside the Arrivals hall with a name board, track your flight, and take the luggage from the trolley to the boot.

The cabin is yours for about four hours. Work, rest or take calls — your chauffeur follows your lead. If you would like to know more about where you are heading, ask: which bridge to cross on foot first, where your Prague hotel sits in relation to the Castle, how long the walk is to the Old Town Square.

Water, a charger and Wi-Fi are ready when you get in. Tell your chauffeur if you want a break near Linz or a particular temperature in the back. In Prague they carry your bags to the reception desk and leave you with nothing left to organise.

Why Prestigo

Why book with Prestigo
from Salzburg to Prague.

One price, agreed in advance

Fuel, tolls, the Austrian and Czech vignettes and driver time are in the fare you book. Traffic near Linz does not change it, and nothing is added when you arrive in Prague.

No connection in Linz

Rail travel from Salzburg to Prague usually means changing trains on the way. By car your bags are loaded once at your Salzburg door and unloaded at your Prague door.

Based in Prague

Prestigo is a Prague company running its own Mercedes fleet. Your chauffeur drives these streets every day and knows the hotel entrances, the pedestrian zones and the fastest way to your address.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a private transfer from Salzburg to Prague take?

Approximately 4 hours door to door: the A1 east to Linz, the S10 north to the Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště border, then České Budějovice and the D3 via Tábor to Prague. Festival weekends and winter ski traffic on the A1 can add time.

How much is a taxi or chauffeur from Salzburg to Prague?

A fixed fare from €580 in a Mercedes E-Class for up to 3 passengers, €640 in the V-Class for up to 6, or €955 in the S-Class. The price includes fuel, all tolls, the Austrian and Czech vignettes and driver time — it is per car, not per person.

Can you pick me up at Salzburg Airport and drive me straight to Prague?

Yes. Send us your flight number when you book. Your chauffeur tracks the landing, waits inside Arrivals at Salzburg Airport (SZG) with your name, and drives you directly to your Prague address. Up to 60 minutes of waiting at the airport is free.

Is a private transfer better than the train from Salzburg to Prague?

Rail connections between Salzburg and Prague usually involve a change, often in Linz, and take longer than the drive once you add getting to the station and a taxi in Prague. A private car is door to door and costs the same for one passenger or three. For a solo traveller with light luggage, the train is the cheaper option.

Can we stop on the way from Salzburg to Prague?

Yes. Linz, Český Krumlov and České Budějovice are the most popular stops. Tell us at booking and we include the stop in a fixed quote. A short coffee or rest break is always included at no extra cost.

Do I need my passport between Austria and the Czech Republic?

Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so there is no routine border control at Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště. Carry your passport or EU ID card anyway — spot checks happen, and non-EU travellers must have their documents with them.
