The Route

Graz to Prague
in four and a half to five hours.

From a pickup below the Schlossberg, in the university quarter or at Graz Airport south of the city, your chauffeur takes the A9 Pyhrn motorway north through the Styrian valleys and the tunnels under the Gleinalpe and the Bosruck into Upper Austria. The tunnel sections carry their own tolls, already in your fare. The motorway comes down the Krems valley and joins the A1 for the short run to Linz on the Danube, where the route turns north on the S10 Mühlviertel expressway.

The Austrian–Czech border at Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště is a Schengen crossing — no stop, no document check in normal conditions. On the Czech side the road runs past Kaplice to České Budějovice, and the D3 motorway carries you north through Tábor to Prague. Total distance is approximately 450 kilometres; driving time is four and a half to five hours in normal traffic.

Your chauffeur checks the Pyhrn tunnels, the S10 and the D3 before you leave and adjusts the route around roadworks without asking. If you want an afternoon in Vienna on the way, that is possible as an optional detour — tell us at booking. Either way, you arrive in Prague with the evening still ahead of you.

Stops on the Way

Close to five hours,
three good reasons to stop.

A drive of this length is easier with a break, and the road from Graz to Prague passes three places worth an hour of your time.

Linz on the Danube

Leave Graz at 8:30 and reach Linz a little before 11:00. Walk the Hauptplatz, look in at the Ars Electronica Center or take coffee by the river, then north across the border to Prague by late afternoon.

Lunch in Český Krumlov

A short detour after the border brings you to Český Krumlov, a UNESCO town wrapped in a bend of the Vltava. Ninety minutes for the castle courtyards and lunch by the river, then two and a half hours on to Prague.

České Budějovice and Hluboká

Stop at the arcaded main square of České Budějovice, home of the Budweiser Budvar brewery, or at the white château of Hluboká a few minutes north. One hour is enough, and from there it is about two hours on the D3 to Prague.

Stops are planned at booking and priced by the extra time and distance — tell us where you would like to stop and we confirm a firm quote before you book. A short coffee or rest stop on the motorway is always included.

The Chauffeur

What to expect
from your driver.

Your chauffeur pulls up at the door of your Graz hotel, ready at the agreed time. At Graz Airport they wait inside the Arrivals hall with a name board, watch your flight, and see your luggage into the car.

Four and a half to five hours is a long stretch, and it is yours to use. Prepare for tomorrow, make calls, or sleep — your chauffeur keeps conversation to whatever you want. If you are new to Prague, ask about the city: where your hotel is, which streets are pedestrian-only, how to spend a first evening.

Water, a charger and Wi-Fi are already in the cabin. A break at a motorway rest stop is planned along the way, and you choose when. When you reach Prague, your chauffeur takes the bags to reception and you walk straight in.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a private transfer from Graz to Prague take?

Approximately 4.5 to 5 hours door to door: the A9 Pyhrn motorway north to Linz, the S10 to the Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště border, then České Budějovice and the D3 to Prague. Friday afternoon traffic into Prague or roadworks in the Pyhrn tunnels can add 20–30 minutes.

How much is a taxi or chauffeur from Graz to Prague?

A fixed fare from €700 in a Mercedes E-Class for up to 3 passengers, €770 in the V-Class for up to 6, or €1150 in the S-Class. The price includes fuel, all tolls, the Austrian and Czech vignettes and driver time — it is per car, not per person.

Can you pick me up at Graz Airport and drive me straight to Prague?

Yes. Send us your flight number when you book. Your chauffeur tracks the landing, waits inside Arrivals at Graz Airport (GRZ) with your name, and drives you directly to your Prague address. Up to 60 minutes of waiting at the airport is free.

Is a private transfer better than the train from Graz to Prague?

Most rail connections from Graz to Prague change in Vienna and take noticeably longer than the drive, before you add the trip to the station and a taxi at the Prague end. A private car is door to door and costs the same for one passenger or three. For a solo traveller with light luggage, the train is the cheaper option.

Can we stop on the way from Graz to Prague?

Yes. Linz, Český Krumlov and České Budějovice are the most popular stops; Vienna is possible as a longer detour. Tell us at booking and we include the stop in a fixed quote. A short coffee or rest break is always included at no extra cost.

Do I need my passport between Austria and the Czech Republic?

Both countries are in the Schengen Area, so there is no routine border control at Wullowitz–Dolní Dvořiště. Carry your passport or EU ID card anyway — spot checks happen, and non-EU travellers must have their documents with them.
